On June 14-15, at Yongmunsa Temple in Yangpyeong, Ven. Jinwoo, delivered a Dharma talk titled ‘Peace of Mind and Meditation for Happiness with the Future Generations’ on the second day of the "Sharing Hope with Neighbors: Temple Stay for Youth Preparing for the Youth Aging out of Care." Thirteen young people in their 20s who are preparing for independence participated in the temple stay.
Ven. Jinwoo responded to all of the questions submitted by the youth beforehand. The young attendees expressed their curiosity about the daily lives of monastics and shared their personal concerns. They sought advice on how to overcome feelings of hatred towards others, how to endure their family’s constant nagging, as well as how to handle the pain of being slandered in school or work environments. The Venerable emphasized the importance of freeing oneself from the discrimination between likes and dislikes and achieving peace of mind through the middle path that transcends such duality.
After the Q&A session, Ven. Jinwoo wrote wishes with the young participants, then moved to the ginkgo tree to hang the wishes and to take some commemorative photos.
A young participant in their mid-20s shared, “Ven. Jinwoo’s talk about finding comfort by letting go of emotions of liking and disliking was very impactful. He said that good emotional control could help in any situation, and that really resonated with me.” and added that the message spoke about many of their concerns. Another participant remarked, “The teachings on meditation was impressive. His simple explanations provided a good opportunity for self-reflection.”
