To Find Hope from “The Other Road…” Photography Exhibition of Nohae Park
One of the most famous Korean folk poets of the 80’s made his return after 30 years, but this time by holding a camera. His last exhibition, “To Be, With Them” received a great response from the general public with a record of eleven thousand attendees. Now, he had returned with the Asian Photography Exhibition entitled “The Other Road…”
After his first exhibition, Nohae Park spent the past three years visiting Tibet, Laos, Pakistan, Burma (Myanmar), Indonesia and India. He did not describe his journey as he had ‘traveled,’ as he only selected road less traveled with only an old fountain pen and antique camera on his back. He strayed from some of the highest mountains and deepest forests where travelers cannot reach. Most of these places are not even on official maps and he described how he got lost several times a day.
He paid close attention to the parts of Asia where nobody ever paid close attention to, or know even they exist. Out of over 70,000 scenes he photographed in these most remote parts of Asia, just 120 of the best selected scenes make its appearance in this Exhibition.
Surprisingly, what the author had found in Asia was ‘Hope.’ Moving away from the ‘Super World,’ he had found the ‘Role Models’ and ‘Seeds of Hope’ where he did not expected to find hope.
The exhibition does not leave the visitors hanging with simple photos on the wall. He took great care in describing each scene with historical significance and life stories. What are people around the world thinking, one may wonder. One may find some answers by visiting the ‘The Other Road’ Exhibition which begins on February 2 - March 3, 2014 at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, located in Gwanghwamun Subway Station, Seoul. The exhibition proceeds will be donated towards World Peace or other great social activities.
