Ten Members Appointed for the 5th Committee for International Relations and Exchanges
"We will expand on the activities best suited for the Jogye Order’s international status"
Ten members have been appointed for the 5th Committee for International Relations and Exchanges, taking the lead on the Jogye Order’s international policies and international Buddhist exchange.
The characteristic of the appointed members are that they are the top employees or managers of the Jogye Order, or work in the field of international affairs. Moreover, four additional members have been selected this year, increasing the number of committee members from six to ten. The committee will coordinate with the International Team from the Social Affairs Department and their main task will be to support the 33rd Executive Branch on their mission in the globalization of Korean Buddhism. Five out of the ten members are monks from their own respective fields of expertise, and the rest are researchers and professors who will take charge of different regions such as the USA, Europe, China, etc.
On January 6, 2013, the committee members were presented with a letter of appointment by Ven. Jaseung, the President of the Jogye Order. This ceremony was held at the reception room on the 4th floor of the Center for Korean Buddhist History and Culture. The term for the International Exchange Committee will be in effect until January 6th, 2015.
