2008 Jogye Order Statistical Information

As of the last day of 2008, there are 2501 Jogye Order temples. This is a 57 temples (2.3%) increase from last year. In the past five years, there has been 203 new temples, which is a 8.8% increase. There are 13,860 monks and nuns of the Jogye Order. This is an increase of 284 monastics (2.1%) from last year, and 1186 monastics (9.3%) from five years. Bhikkhus make up 39.1% (5413 monks), Bhikkhunis make up 38.5% (5331 nuns), Sramaneras make up 13.8% (1922 novice monks), and Sramanerikas make up 8.6% (1194 novice nuns).
