A Korean temple has been founded for the first time in Africa, a region historically lacking in Buddhist presence.

On November 29, Dreaminus (led by Director Venerable Il-hwa) of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism organized the eye-opening ceremony, celebrating the completion of Borisa Temple at the Borigaram Agricultural Technology University in Tanzania.

At Borisa, the Main Buddha Hall houses re-gilded statues of Vairocana Buddha and Shakyamuni Buddha. Additionally, an alter painting and a protective deities painting were placed, and a portrait of the former President of the Jogye Order, Venerable Jaseung, who founded the university, was enshrined. The Borisa sign board and pillar couplets were written in the style of the late Venerable Hyunbong, the former abbot of Songgwangsa Temple. The temple also features lotus door decorations, incorporating traditional Korean Buddhist temple elements.

Venerable Muja, abbot of Songgwangsa Temple, attended the ceremony as the witness and expressed his hope that the establishment of Borisa would help introduce Korean Buddhism to the local Tanzanian community in an accessible way.

Additionally, the 6th Graduation Ceremony of Borigaram Agricultural Technology University and the opening of the Borisu Children's Center were celebrated on the same day.
