On October 1, 2025, the Social Affairs Office (Director: Ven. Jinseong) of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism hosted an event titled ‘Korean Temple Food Experience for Foreign Venerables,’ inviting foreign Buddhist monks residing in Korea to the Temple Food Culture Experience Center. Twenty-two foreign monks from Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, India, and Tibet participated in this event. The experience was divided into morning and afternoon sessions, during which the venerables had the opportunity to experience Korean culture by preparing and eating two dishes themselves: tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and buckwheat pancakes.
The event also included an educational session on religious visas, which is essential knowledge for foreign monks. Supported by the International Team, information was shared on how to extend religious visas and important facts to note during their stay in Korea.
“It is a pleasure to get together with the monks residing in Korea as a family before Chuseok, the Mid-Autumn Festival,” said Venerable Seonil, Vice-director of the Social Affairs Office at the Jogye Order. He added, “We will continue to actively support foreign monks to ensure they experience no inconvenience while living in Korea.”
