The Korean Council of Religious Leaders announced that it held its third extraordinary board meeting of 2025 on December 2 and re-elected Most Ven. Jinwoo, the president of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, as its 18th co-chairperson.
All representatives from the seven major religions—Buddhism, Protestantism, Won Buddhism, Confucianism, Cheondogyo, Catholicism, and ethnic religions—attended the extraordinary board meeting. Established in October 1997, the Council promotes interfaith harmony and exchanges, and comprises representatives from these seven religions, which mirror the diversity of Korean society. The Council engages in various activities that promote social integration and the common good based on mutual respect among religions.
Following his 17th term, Most Ven. Jinwoo was re-elected as co-chairperson. He stated, “The Council will present the direction for religion to take in our changing society and open a path of harmonious coexistence based on mutual respect among religions.”
