On Feb. 12, the Bulkwang Zen Center New York (abbot, Ven. Seonmun, Bhikkhuni) held a closing ceremony for the 3-month winter meditation retreat and a ceremony to install its new abbot, Ven. Seonmun. At the ceremony, attended by 300 people from the fourfold assembly, Ven. Seonmun shared his impressions, saying, “I extend my deepest gratitude to Most Eminent Elder Hwigwang who has led the Zen Center until today, and to many senior monastics and lay Buddhists. I feel like I have just joined a dinner table already splendidly prepared by other senior monastics. By establishing harmony with others, I hope to develop Buddhism in America, and by extension, globally.”
