On March 31, 2026, Banyasa Temple in Los Angeles, led by its abbot Ven. Hyuncheol, successfully held a Five Precepts Ordination Ceremony for 24 local Americans, marking their formal entry into the Buddhist faith. Banyasa is the North American branch temple of Bulguksa, which is the headquarters of the 11th District of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism.

The newly initiated Buddhists included local intellectuals and cultural and artistic figures, such as scientists, poets, musicians, and painters, who have held a deep interest in Korean Seon Buddhism and have practiced meditation for a long time.
