On September 6, a workshop was held at the Collège de France, a symbol of French intellectual pursuits founded in 1530, to commemorate the launch of the Korean Buddhist Research Team.

The event began at 9:30 a.m. with a welcome speech from Prof. Yannick Bruneton, who established the eight-member research team, followed by a speech by Prof. Frantz Grenet, Chair Histoire Et Cultures De L'asie Centrale Préislamique Department at the Collège de France.

In addition, Dr. Ji Zhe, a professor of Sociology at the Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales (Inalco), who leads the Chinese research team, introduced recent Chinese Buddhist studies in France, followed by Prof. Jean-Noël Robert, a specialist in history of Buddhism in Japan, who presented a comparative study of Buddhism in Korea, Japan, and China. 

In his remarks, Prof. Bruneton explained what motivated him to launch the Korean Buddhist Research Team saying, “I hope that this will bring together the works of Korean Buddhist scholars, carry out research projects that will raise the profile of Korean Buddhism in France, and pave the way for books on Korean Buddhism to be published in French so that Korean Buddhism can continue to be introduced as a discipline within East Asian Buddhism.”
