The Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism (led by President Venerable Jinwoo) participated in the inaugural conference of “Religious Tolerance in New Uzbekistan” on November 16. The government of Uzbekistan officially invited Venerable Jinwoo, and on his behalf, Venerable Jeongbeom, Acting Head of Overseas Special Parish, attended to deliver a congratulatory message.
The conference was attended by representatives from 11 religions, including Buddhism (the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism), Islam, Russian Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Evangelical Christianity, Armenian Apostolic, Bahá'í Faith, Anglicanism, the Church of God, Hinduism, and Judaism. Additionally, Venerable Joju, the abbot of Ja-eunsa Temple, participated as a member of the Religious Affairs Committee.
In his message, Venerable Jinwoo highlighted Uzbekistan's historical role as a bridge for Mahayana Buddhism to China and Korea and acknowledged its compassionate reception of Koreans forcibly relocated to Central Asia in the 19th century. He expressed gratitude to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his efforts in fostering interfaith understanding and promoting active exchanges among diverse religions.
