The Teaching on the “Faith in Mind” by Venerable Jinwoo
一空同兩
齊含萬象
"Emptiness is the same at both ends,
Embracing all phenomena equally."
If you have worries right now, it is because you desire something. Worries and desires are referred to as the two ends. Both the worrying mind and the desiring greed are nothing more than the emptiness that appears and disappears; all phenomena in the universe are the same.
All the worries and suffering people experience arise because they have already determined what they want. However, if you do not set what you desire in advance and do your best in your work without any greed, there will be no regrets regardless of the result.
When you become greedy and hope for something specific in advance, from that moment on worries and anxieties will rise. The way of the world and our Karmic consciousness are bound to the law of cause and effect. Therefore, if you desire this much, you will suffer that much. If you want this much, you will struggle that much. If you gain this much, you will lose that much. If you like something this much, you will hate something else that much.
Whether the matter is big or trivial; meaningful or meaningless; done alone or by thousands, it is the result of the law of cause and effect. If you achieve something, not achieving something else will follow as a result. If you enjoy pleasure and joy, sorrow and pain will follow as a result.
Therefore, whether this happens or that happens, you cannot escape the law of cause and effect. However, cause and effect itself is like a dream, an illusion, a bubble, a shadow; they will eventually all disappear into emptiness in the end. Thus, there is no reason or need to worry, even a little bit.
Thus, let go of the worrying mind that is anxious in advance or preoccupied with the plans ahead. Let things happen as they will without doubt. Remember to have a firm belief in the law of cause and effect, and emptiness so that pleasant or painful emotions do not arise regardless of the result.
Cultivate the habit of accepting the conditions that come as they are without arousing the emotions of liking or disliking. When you have unwavering faith in cause and effect, and emptiness, you will not be disturbed by ordinary matters and can accept any situation with a peaceful mind.
Do you have worries and anxieties now?
It is because you have desires.
As much as you desire something, that much pleasure and suffering will follow as a result.
Even desires, and the cause and effect of joy and sorrow will return to emptiness...
