The Assembly of Nine Thousand Five Hundred Buddhas at Taejo-am Hermitage is a symbolic representation of the three billion, six hundred and ten million, nineteen thousand and five hundred incarnations of Amitabha Buddha.

This Buddhist painting depicts Amitabha Buddha giving Dharma teachings in the Western Paradise, surrounded by countless nirmanakayas with the Western Paradise in the background in five different forms.

This painting is part of the “Assembly of Nine Thousand and Five Hundred Buddhas” series consisting of ten pictures housed in Taejo-am Hermitage. It depicts several figures standing with their palms together around a golden pagoda in the center, while the Amitabha Buddha Triad riding on a five-colored cloud, accompanied by their entourage on the left and right, descends towards the pagoda. To the left of the pagoda is a garden that features a magnificent, majestic pavilion, plum blossoms, and cranes. The atmosphere is mystical, with kalavinkas (mythical birds in Buddhist Paradises) flying in the sky while little boys and girls play musical instruments on the ground.

The Taejo-am Hermitage's Painting of the Assembly of Nine Thousand Five Hundred Buddhas presents a one-of-a-kind iconographic image that has not been previously produced in Korea.
