Muryangsa Temple of Hawaii
Established in 1975, Muryangsa Temple in Hawaii stands as the largest traditional Korean Buddhist temple in the United States. Nestled in a picturesque location that overlooks Waikiki Beach in the Palolo Valley, at the base of the Ko'olau Mountains in Honolulu, this temple boasts a range of exceptional facilities. These include the main Buddha hall, the Kstigarbha hall, a culture center, an exhibition hall, a Dharma hall, and a library. The temple extends its services to the local communities, including the Korean Americans in Hawaii, by offering classes on traditional Korean dance, tea ceremonies, and the Korean language. In addition to regular Dharma services on Sundays, Muryangsa Temple hosts various programs such as summer and winter meditation retreats, 100-day prayer practices, vipassana meditation classes, yoga classes, and dance classes. Muryangsa is committed to providing traditional services and functions akin to those of Korean temples, such as conducting the 49-day funeral rites and offering teachings on Ganhwa Seon meditation. This comprehensive range of activities and services establishes Muryangsa Temple as a hub for Buddhist practice.
